Choctaws Pick Up 1-0 Win Over Lee On Senior Day

Clinton, Miss— The Mississippi College Choctaws defeated the Lee Flames 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.

This was the Choctaws' third consecutive win, and they have won eight of their last nine.  They are currently at the top of the Gulf South Conference standing as they are 7-0-2 in conference play and have clinched a berth in the conference tournament.  

The first half was a stalemate, as neither team could put the ball in the goal.  There was just one shot on goal in the first half, by Choctaw junior Kento Tani, however, it was saved by Jakob Buhrkuhul.

The second half started off with a bang as in just the 46th minute Luke Fanstone finally put the ball in the net with a goal off an assist by Yamato Fujishima.  

The Choctaws would protect their lead throughout the second half as they turned away each of the Flames' tries.  Cole Turner recorded three saves in the second half alone.  

On the game, both teams had 12 total shots and Lee had more shots on goal, 4-2.  

Cole Turner recorded a clean sheet with three saves and no goals allowed, while for Lee, Jakob Buhrkuhl had one save and allowed one goal.  

The Choctaws will wrap up their regular season this weekend, with road matchups against Montevallo on Friday, October 27 at 5 p.m. CT and Auburn Montgomery on Sunday, October 29 at 1 p.m. CT.
