Choctaws and Tigers Trade Goals in First Half to End in a Draw

Livingston, Al. ---- The Mississippi College men's soccer team drew in a 2-2 contest at West Alabama this Friday evening (October 13, 2023).

The first 15 minutes of the match saw both teams' offensives start the attack early, as a plethora of shots were put up and each team had a corner kick opportunity, however both were not successful. In the 15th minute, Santi Diosa received a pass in the penalty box and put a redirecting shot on goal that hit off the side post and still in play. Thankfully for MC, Yamato Fujishima was there to finish the job and give MC its first lead of the match. With offenses sputtering thereafter, Guilherme Santos broke the silence in the 22nd minute after he won a tackle from a Tiger defender and immediately sent a rolling shot past an unsuspecting UWA keeper for a 2-0 lead and his seventh goal of his 2023 campaign.

The Tigers used the next 15 minutes to storm back, however, as the Tigers' Yannick Pohland received a header in the 32nd minute that he placed in the corner of the net to cut the deficit in half. MC then picked up a foul and yellow card before Richard Lopez placed a scoring shot in the 35th minute after a pass across the box to tie up the match at two.

The score remained the same for the entirety of the match as MC was held to just six shots in the second half and only two shots on target in the full 90 minutes, their season low. Defensively, the Choctaws looked solid defensively after both teams stopped scoring, holding the Tigers to a mere four shots in the second half. The only save of the match was MC's Cole Turner in the first minute of the match.

The Choctaws (8-1-2, 4-0-2 GSC) remains just outside the Division II top-25 rankings and their next match is this Sunday (October 15, 2023) at Alabama-Huntsville with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. at Charger Park.
