Boston, Mass. --- The Mississippi College men's distance running team had a strong showing at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Massachusetts, with two school records being broken and four provisional standards being set.
Hunter Kurz broke his own Men's 1-mile school record with a provisional mark of 4:03.98, placing second in highly-competitive field. Kurz now leads the Gulf South Conference and is No. 5 in NCAA Division II.
Jan Lukas Becker, the 2022 Gulf South Conference Cross Country Champion, broke the Men's 3,000-meter school record with a time of 7:58.12, becoming the first Choctaw to dip under eight minutes in the 3,000-meter run. Becker also placed runner-up in his section, and is now ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II.
Cole Benoit, a senior from Carrierre, Mississippi, also ran a provisional standard of 8:07.68, and is ranked No. 2 in the Gulf South Conference behind Becker and No. 6 in NCAA Division II.
The dynamic duo of Becker and Benoit are now the two fastest Men's 3,000-meter runners in Mississippi College Track and Field history.
Christian Balcer, a sophomore from Hurley, Mississippi, won his heat in the Men's 5,000-meter run, running a lifetime best and provisional standard of 14:23.45. Balcer is now No. 2 in the Gulf South Conference behind Becker and No. 22 in NCAA Division II. Lastly, Balcer is now the third-fastest performer in the Men's 5,000-meter run in Mississippi College Indoor Track and Field history.
In addition to these outstanding performances, Brock Kelly ran 4:11.43 in the Men's 1-mile run and Gabe Poulin went 14:39.31 in the Men's 5,000-meter run.
