Choctaws Stay Unbeaten With 3-1 Win Over Ouachita Baptist

Arkadelphia, Ark.--- The Mississippi College men's soccer team knocked off Ouachita Baptist 3-1 on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 4). Felix Ewald, Zach Diallo, and Jayce Dotson scored the goals to help lead MC to victory. MC stays unbeaten at 3-0 with the win, while Ouachita Baptist falls to 0-2-2.

Ewald got the scoring started with a header in the 30th minute. He elevated high in the air to get on the end of a cross from Santi Diosa to put MC ahead 1-0. The goal marks the second of the season for Ewald.

That would be the only goal of the first half. In the first half, MC outshot Ouachita 13-1 with most of the Choctaws shots coming in the final 10-15 minutes of the half.

The second half got off to a quick start. In the opening minute of the half, Diallo drew a foul in the box. Guilherme Santos had gotten a takeaway for MC, he then played the ball into a dangerous position for Diallo. Diallo was fouled in the box however, setting up a Penalty Kick. Diallo then also converted the PK as well as he put it past the OBU keeper to double MC's lead. The goal marked the first of the season for Diallo, and the fifth of his career

Dotson then added his first goal as a Choctaw in the 51st minute. He had time on the ball outside the box, and was able to size up a shot that he put into the back of the net with a nice strike.

OBU would get a goal back however in the 66th minute. MC was called for a foul in the box, resulting in an OBU Penalty Kick. Choctaw goalkeepr Cole Turner initially made the save on the PK, but it was ruled that Turner left his line early. Thus, OBU was granted a retake. Bobby Boone put the PK home for OBU to trim the lead to 3-1. That goal marked the first goal allowed of the season by the Choctaws.

MC would see out the remainder of the match from there, picking up the 3-1 win.

Overall for the match, MC outshot Ouachita 27-8. The Choctaws also held a 13-4 edge in shots on goal.

Next up, MC will head into Gulf South Conference play as they host Auburn-Montgomery on Friday before hosting Montevallo on Sunday.
