COLUMBUS, Ga.--- The Mississippi College women's soccer team opened up the 2022 season with a 1-0 win over Queens University of Charlotte (N.C.) on Friday afternoon (August 26th).
Avery Hederman scored the goal for MC as she converted a free kick late in the 1st half. MC opens up the year at 1-0, while Queens falls to 0-2-1.
In the 39th minute,
Erin Hederman was able to draw a penalty, that was then converted by her sister Avery. That penalty help propel MC to the win.
Three Lady Choctaws made their MC debuts in the match.
Margherita Giubilato,
Avery Burleson, and Eduarda Silva were all in the starting lineup for MC in their first appearances with the team.
The win served as a bit of revenge for MC. The Lady Choctaws fell to Queens in their season opener a year ago, but were able to knock off the now transitioning Division 1 Royals on Friday. Queens is in their first year of transitioning up to Division I from Division II.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Sunday as they stay in Columbus to battle with nationally ranked Columbus State University. CSU enters the year ranked 15th in the preseason coaches poll. They opened up their season with a win over fellow GSC foe West Alabama on Friday night.
