CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College Lady Choctaws Softball team wrapped up the season Saturday afternoon falling to Union in a pair of contests by finals of 8-7 and 4-3 at the MC Softball Complex in Clinton, Mississippi.
Mississippi College collected nine hits in game one, with two runs in the second inning, one run in the third inning, and four runs in the fourth inning on an
Alexis Laughlin hit that allowed
Jaycee Dill to cross the plate, bringing MC to within one run, 5-4. MC added the go ahead runs on a
Brooke Fagan and
McCall Lee single to right field that scored
Rayne Minor, Fagan, and Laughlin as MC took the 7-5 lead.
In the sixth inning, a three run home run by Union, put Union back on top 8-7.
Union went on the win the game by final score of 8-7, forcing a "winner to the Gulf South Conference Tournament" game three situation.
Laughlin and McCall each led the Lady Choctaws with three runs batted in while
Mallory Little and Annemarie Peavy each finished with two hits in game one.
Jordan LaFosseled MC with two runs scored.
If her final start in the circle for Mississippi College,
Avery Sanders went the complete game, going seven innings pitched, allowing six hits, seven earned runs, and an impressive 11 strikeouts in her final start.
In game two of Saturday's doubleheader, Mississippi College struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a
McCall Lee single the centerfield, which scored
Brooke Fagan. Later, a
Jordan LaFosse sacrifice fly to right field that allowed
Jenna Ergle to cross home plate, giving MC the 2-0 lead.
Union answered in the second and third inning, tying it up at 2-2 in the second inning, before taking a 3-2 lead on a sacrifice fly by David.
MC tied it up in the fifth inning after a
Jenna Ergle ground out to shortstop allowed
Alexis Laughlin to cross the plate, as MC tied it up at 3-3.
Union took the go ahead advantage on a single to centerfield in the sixth inning taking the 4-3 lead over MC.
Mississippi College could not muster up a run in the final two innings, falling to Union by a final score of 4-3, A Mississippi College's season came to a close.
Mississippi College had 7 hits, including multiple hit ball games by
Alexis Laughlin and
Brooke Fagan with two hits each. Fagan, Laughlin, and Ergle scored the lone runs for MC with Ergle, Lee, and
Jordan LaFosse collecting an RBI on the game.
It was a bittersweet ending to the 2022 season, as the Lady Choctaws celebrated and honored three seniors prior to the games on Saturday, after stellar careers with the Lady Choctaws.

Mississippi College, and the three seniors that played their final game with the Navy and Gold, wrapped up the season with an overall record of 22-23 and 12-18 and Gulf South Conference play.
