CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's and men's tennis programs opened the 2021 season Saturday afternoon with the women taking the 7-0 sweep over Blue Mountain College while the men came up shy 4-3.
WOMEN'S
MC 7 | BMC 0
The Lady Choctaws (1-0) jumped out to a quick lead with a one point lead in doubles play, sweeping BMC wins in each of the three doubles matches, led by a 6-0 sweep from Maria Rodriquez and Emma Roberts at #3.
MC would then push the lead out to 3-0 with singles wins at #6 with Maria Rodriquez (6-0, 6-2) and #4 with
Anna Didkovska (6-4, 6-0).
Anna Valiaeva (6-3, 6-4), Emma Roberts (6-3, 6-3),
Fernanda Cota (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) and
Paulina Cota (7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (tiebreaker) each closed out the 7-0 sweep to help lift the Choctaws to an opening day win over Blue Mountain College.
MEN'S

On the men's side, MC took a 1-0 lead, pulling two victories out of the three doubles matches, led by Hsiang

Walker Ellis (6-2)
In singles play, MC (0-1) jumped out to a 3-2 lead with wins at #1 with
Brady McDaniel (6-2, 6-3) and #2 with
Joe Jarvis (6-7, 6-3, 6-4).
BMC went on to win at #6 and #5 to take the win in singles play, 4-2, and ultimately winning the match 4-3 on the day.
The Choctaws are scheduled to be back in action Tuesday when they open up home play versus West Alabama at the MC Tennis Complex beginning at 2 p.m.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
