Women's Soccer Preparing for GSC Semifinals

CLINTON, Miss.--- The 2-seed Mississippi College women's soccer team will take on 3-seed West Alabama in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference tournament on Friday night (Nov. 4th) at 6:00 pm in Huntsville, Ala. The match will take place at John Hunt park. The winner of the MC-UWA semifinal will move on to the GSC championship on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 6th) at 12:00 pm to take on the winner of the other semifinal (1-seed West Florida vs. 5-seed Lee). 

The Lady Choctaws reached the semi's with a 3-0 victory over 7-seed Christian Brothers last Sunday (Oct. 30th). Beatrice Currie, Erin Hederman, and Avery Hederman picked up the goals to propel MC to victory. That win pushed MC to 14-3-1 (10-2-1 GSC) on the season. MC was also ranked sixth in the south region in this week's NCAA region rankings (the final region rankings before next Monday's NCAA Selection Show)

West Alabama knocked off 6-seed Delta State in the semifinals in penalty kicks.  The match ended 1-1, and neither team was able to break-through in overtime. The Tigers then outlasted DSU in PK's to advance. West Alabam comes into the matchup 10-5-2 (9-3-1 GSC) on the year.

MC is led by four 1st team All-GSC selections (Beatrice Currie, Avery Hederman, Erin Hederman, and Emma Young), plus 2nd team All-GSC selection MaryElla White. Currie and Erin Hederman are both top five in the GSC in goals scored, plus Avery Hederman leads the conference in assists.

UWA is led by a trio of All-GSC selection. Dana Cruz earned 1st team honors after a 7 goal, 6 assist season. Paige Laidler was a 2nd team All-GSC selection after going for 5 goals and 1 assist. She was joined by 2nd team All-GSC goalkeeper Maria Mon. 

In the previous meeting this season between the two squads, MC came out on top 3-0 behind a brace from Margherita Giubilato. Erin Hederman also scored. All three of MC's goals came in the 1st half.
