CLINTON, Miss. —- On a chilly afternoon, the Mississippi College Choctaws concluded the season with a matchup against the #7 West Florida Argonauts. The game was competitive but ultimately the Argos claimed the victory 56-21.
In the first quarter, West Florida quarterback Pewee Jarrett found his wide receiver David Durden downfield for a 54-yard score to take a 7-0 lead at the 13:33 mark. The Choctaws found the end zone on a two-yard run as quarterback John Henry White called his own number to tie the game at 7-7 with 5:59 remaining in the opening period. On the following possession, Jarrett found Jared Smith for a 45-yard touchdown pass to regain the lead at the 3:08 throughout the remainder of the quarter.
In the second quarter, Jarrett slipped in another score for the Argos scoring from one yard out to extend the lead to 21-7 with 7:57 left in the half. Jarrett found Caden Leggett for a 57-yard reception pushing the lead to 28-7 at the 5:38 mark. MC answered with a one-yard plunge from quarterback Devlin Woods to cut the Argos' lead to 28-14, but Jarrett once again found Durden on a 35-yard pass pushing the score to 35-14 going into the break.
In the third quarter, West Florida scored again as Jarrett scored from four yards out making the score 42-14 at the 8:30 mark. The Choctaws cut into the lead on a two-yard run from Marcus Williams making the score 42-21 until the final period.
In the fourth quarter, the Argos extended the lead to make the score 49-21 after backup QB Michael Rich, Jr connected with Zac Offord for a 12-yard score with 14:12 remaining. West Florida added to their lead on an eight-yard run from Seth Johnson making the score 56-21 throughout the remainder of the contest.
The Choctaws finish the season with a record of 4-7 and 3-4 in GSC play. Thank you fans for your support of 2022 Choctaws Football!
