CARROLLTON, Ga.--- The #21 ranked Mississippi College women's soccer team knocked off West Georgia 2-1 on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 2).
Eduarda Silva and
Beatrice Currie scored the goals for MC. The Lady Choctaws improved to 8-2 (5-1 GSC) on the year, while West Georgia falls to 5-5-1 (3-3-1 GSC).
Eduarda Silva scored the lone goal of the 1st half in the 32nd minute. She dribbled into the box, working around several defenders, before putting a shot into the back of the net to put the Lady Choctaws ahead 1-0. The goal marks Silva's third of the season, which has her tied for third on the team.
That 1-0 MC lead would remain for the rest of the 1st half.
In the opening 45 minutes, MC outshot West Georgia 10-2. The Lady Choctaws also had a 3-0 advantage in shots on goal.
The Wolves would equalize early in the 2nd half however. In the 50th minute, West Georgia got a free kick in a dangerous position. They played the ball in, and Delaney Kewin was on the back post to put it home.
MC would find the game-winner just several minutes later though.
Beatrice Currie would head home a rebound in the 57th minute.
Margherita Giubilato ripped a shot from outside the box, but it hit the crossbar. The ball bounced in the air, and Currie was expertly able to control the ball and put it in the back of the net to give MC the lead for good. The goal is Currie's eighth of the season (second on the team).

Sara Maleski made a big save late to keep the Lady Choctaws in front. West Georgia had a free kick in the 82nd minute, but Maleski made the diving save to keep MC in front. MC would see out the 2-1 win from there.
Overall for the match, the Lady Choctaws outshot West Georgia 18-14. MC also held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.
Erin Hederman led the way for MC in both shots (five) and shots on goal (three) for the match.
Next up, MC will stay in Georgia to take on Valdosta State on Tuesday (Oct. 4th). The match was originally scheduled for this past Friday, but the date was changed due to Hurricane Ian.
