CLINTON, Miss. --- Former Mississippi College baseball standout and current Frisco Roughrider, Blaine Crim, continues to impress as he pursues his career in Major League Baseball.
The former 2019 All-Gulf South Conference Player of the Year just wrapped a stint in Puerto Rico, where he became the first United States born and raised player to lead the league in hitting and reach the .400-plus clip since 1948-49. Crim won the batting title for the 2021-22 Liga de Béisbol Roberto Clemente by hitting for a .402.
"The experience in Puerto Rico was awesome. Playing baseball at the beach is something I'll never complain about," said Crim. "I've learned a lot and I'm just trying to use this experience to better my career, but also enjoy the ride and have fun doing it."
After starting the 2021 season in Class High-A Hickory (N.C.), the Mobile, Ala., product was promoted to Double-A Frisco, where he hit .288 with an on-base percentage of .331 and slugged .525 with nine home runs and 19 RBI.
He has hit .314 during his two seasons in minor league baseball and totaled 128 RBI and 37 home runs.
Crim was the second player in Mississippi College baseball history to be selected in the Major League Baseball Draft as he was selected in the 19th round by the Texas Rangers on June 5, 2019. He was the first Division II, Choctaw player to be drafted.
Crim wrapped up his collegiate career as a five-time, all-South Region selection, including three first team accolades, a two-time All-GSC performer, and a conference "top 10" selection. He stands as the MC career leader in hits, doubles, at-bats and games played and broke the school's single-season doubles record in 2019 with a GSC-leading 21. He assisted in leading the Choctaws to three consecutive GSC Tournament berths, including the program's first-ever GSC crown in 2018, while being named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. The tournament championship gave the Navy and Gold its first NCAA Division II regional appearance.
