Lady Choctaws Finish Season at NCAA South Regional

VALDOSTA, Ga. --- The Mississippi College softball team closed out the 2021 season with a pair of losses on Wednesday at the NCAA Division II South Regional, hosted by Valdosta State University at Steel's Diamond.

The Lady Choctaws (21-22) dropped the opening game to #16 UAH (32-12) by a score of 10-4, and they were eliminated by Rollins (20-3) in the nightcap by a score of 5-2.
 

#16 UAH 10, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Chargers got off to a fast start in the first inning, scoring two unearned runs to grab the early advantage.
  - They would push the lead out to 6-0 with four more runs in the third inning, starting with an RBI single by Mackenzie Nutt.
  - The big blow came on a three-run home run by Kaylee Vaught that was nearly robbed over the wall by Rayne Minor.
  - The Lady Choctaws battled back in the 5th, scoring four times as Jordan LaFosse drove in a run with a single.
  - Morgan Bradford drew a bases loaded walk and Shelby Carlson brought home a pair with the help of a UAH error.
  - The Chargers answered back in their half of the 5th with a pinch-hit grand slam from Laura Harbin that put the game away.

KEY STATS
  - McCall Lee led the Lady Choctaws with a pair of hits, while Bradford reached base 3-of-4 times.
  - Avery Barnett (11-7) took the loss, allowing five hits and two earned runs over 2.0 innings.
  - Layton Murphy (16-4) tossed a complete game for the Chargers, allowing seven hits and two earned runs.
  - Shelby Booker had a team-high three hits for UAH, while Vaught and Harbin had a combined seven RBI on two home runs.
 

#21 ROLLINS 5, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Tars scored an early run as Chelsea Peace hit a solo home run in the first inning.
  - Rollins was able to open up the lead in the 4th inning with three runs, the big blow being a two-run single by Taylor Waters.
  - MC battled back again in the 5th, starting with an RBI double by Lee that scored Minor.
  - Brooke Fagan drew a walk and came home to score on a double by LaFosse, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
  - The Tars tacked on a run in the 6th, and the Lady Choctaws were unable to mount a comeback in the loss.

KEY STATS
  - Three Lady Choctaws had a pair of hits in the game, led by Lee's two doubles and an RBI.
  - Minor went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base, while LaFosse had a double and an RBI.
  - Barnett (11-8) threw 4.1 innings in the circle, allowing four hits and four earned runs.
  - Avery Sanders tossed two hitless innings.
  - Ali Shenefield (10-0) went all 7.0 innings for the Tars, scattering seven hits and four walks.
  - Raiven Bryant had a team-high two hits and an RBI doubles for Rollins.
 

NOTES
  - This was the third NCAA Tournament appearance for the Lady Choctaws (2017, 2019).
  - It was the final games of the careers of Morgan Bradford and Paige Hulin.
