CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team jumped up to #46 in the latest Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, it was released on Friday (May 7).

The Lady Choctaws (9-7) won 6-of-8 matches down the stretch to catapult up the Gulf South Conference standings and secure the #3 seed in the conference tournament. After a 4-1 win over Lee in the quarterfinals, MC fell to #7 West Florida in the semifinal round.

West Alabama (#4), West Florida (#7), Auburn Montgomery (#26), MC (#46) and Christian Brothers (#50) all checked in from the GSC in the Top 50, while Lee and Valdosta State each received votes from the tough league.

Ely Alas (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) was a Second Team All-GSC selection this season, while Fernanda Cota took home GSC Player and Freshman of the Week honors in the final week of the season.

Seniors Julia McCarty, Alisa Morozova and Kennedy Rodriguez all wrapped up their careers this season. MC is expected to be strong again next season with the return of Alas, Cota, Anna Didkovska, Paulina Cota and Maria Rodriguez, all of whom played in the team's lineup this season.
