Women's Tennis Falls to #7 West Florida in GSC Semifinals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team closed out the 2021 season with a 4-0 loss to #7 West Florida on Friday (April 23) at the O'Connor Tennis Center in the semifinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.

The Lady Choctaws (9-7, 6-4, GSC) won 8-of-11 to finish up the season and earned the #3 seed in the GSC Tournament. The Argos (15-4, 9-1 GSC) were the #2 seed in the tournament and advance to Saturday's championship match against West Alabama.
 

#7 WEST FLORIDA 4, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 0

DOUBLES ACTION
  - The Argos got things going quickly with a 6-0 win at #3.
  - They finished off the opening point with a 6-1 win at #2 to grab an early 1-0 lead.
  - Ely Alas and Fernanda Cota were tight in the #1 match, trailing 3-2 before the match was stopped due to the point being decided.

SINGLES ACTION
  - Needing three points to clinch the win, UWF was able to get a quick point at #6 by a score of 6-0, 6-0.
  - Berta Bonardi, the #2 ranked player in the nation, gave the Argos a 3-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #1.
  - The Argos clinched the match at #4 with a 6-2, 6-1 win, advancing to Saturday's title match.
  - Alas had the tighest match among the singles competition, sitting at a 6-6 tie in the opening set before the match was decided.
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
