Men's Tennis Wraps Up Season at GSC Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team finished the 2021 season with a 4-0 loss to #3 Valdosta State on Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference Tournament.

The Choctaws (3-13) battled through an injury-plagued campaign and qualified for the GSC Tournament at Lagoon Park with a win in the final match of the season against Shorter.

Prior to the action on Thursday, Brady McDaniel was named the GSC Champion Scholar-Athlete, which recognizes the top grade-point-average among student-athletes competing in a GSC Tournament.
 

#3 VALDOSTA STATE 4, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 0

DOUBLES ACTION
  - The nationally-ranked Blazers grabbed a 6-0 win at #2 to jump out to a quick advantage.
  - MC responded, however, as Matias Ballatore and Carlos Trujillo teamed up to take down the top-ranked doubles team in the country for the second time in two weeks, defeating Yohan Nguyen and Florian Simbozel (6-4).
  - VSU was able to secure the doubles point with a win at #3 by a score of 6-3.

SINGLES ACTION
  - The Blazers grabbed a quick point at #4 with a straight-set win by Luca Mack (6-1, 6-1).
  - Simbozel then grabbed a 6-4, 6-0 win over McDaniel at #2 to come within one point of the victory.
  - Nguyen clinched the quarterfinal win with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ballatore at #1.
  - Freshman Joe Jarvis won the opening set of the #3 singles match, but in tournament play, the matches are stopped when it has been decided.
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
