Choctaws Clinch Group A With 1-0 Win Over West Alabama

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team stayed unbeaten and clinched Group A with a 1-0 win over West Alabama on Sunday afternoon at Arrow Field on the campus of Clinton High School.

The Choctaws (4-0, 4-0 GSC) are now the #1 seed from Group A in the GSC Spring Championship Series Tournament that opens on March 17th.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The first half did not present many chances on either side with the Choctaws having the lone shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.
  - The second half saw MC break through in the 57th minute as Aaron Martin found a bouncing ball in the box and a deflected shot found the back of the net.
  - The only goal of the match came after a throw-in from Grant Hudson bounced off several players and set Martin up.
  - Both teams had chances in the final minutes, but the Choctaws held on for the victory.

KEY STATS
  - The Choctaws took 11 shots with four on goal, while the Tigers had five shots with one on goal.
  - Martin had a team-high three shots with four different players putting shots on net.
  - Alejandro Chavarria made one save to collect his third shutout of the season and 12th of his career.
  - Harold Leighton made three saves for the Tigers to keep UWA in the match.

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws have a scrimmage against West Florida on Friday, March 12th in Hattiesburg.
  - MC will then play in the GSC Tournament on March 20th or 21st in a home match.
