Choctaws Fall in GSC Semis to Christian Brothers, 3-1

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team finished the 2021 Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series season with a 3-1 loss to Christian Brothers on Sunday afternoon at Arrow Field at Clinton High School.

The Choctaws (5-1, 4-0 GSC) bowed out in the semifinals of the tournament, while the Bucs (3-2-1, 2-2 GSC) advance to the championship next Saturday (April 3) against Union at 4:00 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The first half saw neither team able to get much going on offense and the teams went into the break scoreless.
  - The Choctaws broke through in the 57th minute as Santi Diosa took advantage of a CBU misplay and scored his first of the season to give MC the lead.
  - The Bucs responded, however, in the 61st minute as Chandler O'Dwyer headed in a free kick from Jacob Daffern to knot the match at 1-1.
  - The game-winning goal was scored by Daffern on a direct free kick in the 82nd minute.
  - CBU put the game away in the 88th minute as Habib Binate chipped in the final score to give the match a 3-1 final.

KEY STATS
  - Both teams tallied 10 shots in the match with MC putting six on goal and CBU putting five on net.
  - Antoine Recizac and Guilherme Santos each had three shots for the Choctaws.
  - O'Dwyer led CBU with three shots in the match.
  - Alejandro Chavarria made two saves for the Choctaws, while Wayne Davis made five saves for the Bucs.

GAME NOTES
  - Aurele Chemin and Zach Diallo were named to the Gulf South Conference All-Tournament Team.
 

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws are scheduled to be back in action for a regular fall season in the Fall of 2021.
