Choctaws Battle Christian Brothers For GSC Championship Title Shot

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team will look to advance to the Gulf South Conference Spring Championship Series Tournament championship match when they host Christian Brothers at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Arrow Field at Clinton High School.

The teams have met nine previous times with the Choctaws holding a 5-4 edge in the series, including a 4-1 record in home games for the Blue and Gold. The teams faced off back on February 23rd at Brandon High School with Zach Diallo scoring the game-winner in the 37th minute. Overall, the teams have played six straight matches that have produced shutouts and neither team has scored more than two goals in those matches.
 

(1A) MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE (5-0-0, 4-0-0 GSC)

The Choctaws entered the tournament as the #1 seed from Group A after going 4-0 in league play. They have not lost a GSC regular season match since October 27, 2018 (Spring Hill, 2-1).

MC opened this year's GSC SCS Tournament with a 6-0 thrashing of rival Delta State on Sunday. Aurele Chemin scored a pair of goals, including one from 70 yards out to put the sixth goal in the board in the final minutes. Five different Choctaws scored in the match, while four different Choctaws recorded assists.

Diallo and Antoine Recizac have a team-high three goals scored, while Pedro Cortes and Chemin have two tallies apiece. Seven different Choctaws have recorded assists this season, led by Cortes and Recizac with two each.

Defensively, the Choctaws have given up just one goal this season, a penalty kick make from Union. Alejandro Chavarria has posted a 0.20 goals against average with four shutouts, giving him 13 career clean sheets.
 

(3A) CHRISTIAN BROTHERS (2-2-1, 2-2-0 GSC)

The Bucs are the #3 seed from Group A after going 2-2 in league play this season. They advanced to the semifinals with an improbable penalty kick win at UAH on Sunday. CBU trailed 3-1 with just under five minutes to play and Chandler O'Dwyer scored twice to send the match to overtime before winning 6-5 in PK's.

O'Dwyer is the team's leading scorer this season, putting three balls in the back of the net, while Habib Binate has two scores. Wayne Davis has played all 470 minutes in goal for CBU, posting a 1.15 goals against average with 16 saves on the season.
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
