Late Goals Lift Choctaws to 2-0 Win Over Delta State

CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team scored twice in the last 21 minutes to pick up a 2-0 win over rival Delta State on Sunday afternoon at Delta Field.

The Choctaws improved to 2-0 on the season with a 2-0 GSC mark, while the Statesmen fell to 0-3 overall and in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The match was a stalemate through the first 45 minutes as the teams combined for just five shots with only two on goal, both from DSU.
  - The first 25 minutes of the second half was much the same as neither team could break through in a scoreless tie.
  - The Choctaws got the game-winning goal from Pedro Cortes on an assist from Aaron Martin in the 69th minute.
  - They would put the game away in the 76th minute as Antoine Recizac found the back of the net to give the match its final score.

KEY STATS
  - The Choctaws asserted themselves in the second half, taking 10 shots to just three for the Statesmen.
  - Overall, they put six shots on goal as DSU put four on net.
  - Recizac led the way with four shots, while Cortes and Gonzalo Carrasco each notched two on goal.
  - Alejandro Chavarria made three saves to tally his 11th career shutout.
  - Mattis Kloepper made four saves in defeat for the Statesmen.

NEXT UP
  - The Choctaws will hit the road again on Wednesday (Mar. 3) as they travel to face Union at 4:00 p.m.
