Women's Soccer Prepares for NCAA Tournament 1st Round

CLINTON, Miss.---The Mississippi College women's soccer team will play in the 1st round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament on Friday afternoon (Nov. 19). The Lady Choctaws are the #4 seed in the south region. They will play the #5 seed Florida Tech at 12:00 pm Central in Cleveland, Tenn. on Friday at the Ray Conn Sports Complex with the first 2 rounds being hosted by Lee University.

The Lady Choctaws head into the NCAA tournament 12-4-1 on the season after going 10-3 in GSC play. MC finished 2nd in the GSC standings in the regular season, but fell in the 1st round of the Gulf South tournament to West Alabama in Penalty Kicks.

Florida Tech comes in with a 10-3-5 record overall and they went 4-2-4 in the Sunshine State Conference. Florida Tech made it to the Championship match of the SSC tournament, but fell to Embry-Riddle (the #2 seed in the south regional) by a score of 1-0.

MC's leading scorer is Beatrice Currie who has 9 goals on the season. She has also added 3 assists on the year. MC's leader in assists is Holly Pascoe who has 7 on the season. Pascoe has also added 5 goals. Avery Hederman also has 6 goals and 4 assists on the year. Emma Young was recently named GSC Defensive Player of the Year. Young, Currie, Hederman, and Emily McNair were all 1st team All-GSC selections. 

Florida Tech is led by Marem Ndiongue and Mayara Queiroz Reis who both have 5 goals on the season which is tied for the team lead. Ndiongue leads the team with 5 assists, while Queiroz Reis is second on the team with 4. Both Ndiongue and Queiroz Reis were 2nd team All-SSC selections. 2 pieces of Florida Tech's strong defensive unit were 1st team All-SSC selections-Goalkeeper Maria Sanchez Recuero and defender JoJo Michaels. 

MC has outscored opponents 44-14 this season and also have an edge in shots per game of over 14 over their opponents this season. Florida Tech is outscoring opponents 19-9 on the year and allow just 0.50 goals per match. 

This marks the first ever meeting between MC and Florida Tech. This is also the 4th straight year that the Lady Choctaws have qualified for the NCAA Division II tournament (discounting 2020 when there wasn't a national tournament).
