The Mississippi College women's soccer team beat Valdosta State 4-1 on Friday afternoon (Oct. 8) at Longabaugh field. MC improved to 7-3 (5-2 GSC) while Valdosta State fell to 5-3-1 (2-2-1 GSC).
Beatrice Currie got the action started quickly as she scored in the 3rd minute off an assist from
Julia Murdoch.
Valdosta State got an equalizer in the 20th minute as Molly Woolridge scored unassisted.
That 1-1 score remained until the half, even though MC had several chances in the final few minutes before the break.
Then in the 62nd minute,
Makayla Hernandez gave MC the lead back as she scored her first goal of the season on an assist from
Emily McNair to put MC up 2-1.
Just minutes later,
Beatrice Currie doubled the Lady Choctaws lead to 3-1 in the 66th minute. An MC corner came in,
Emma Young headed the ball back in front of the goal, and then Currie slotted it home to secure her brace for the game. The 2 goals in the match marked Currie's 5th and 6th of the season respectively.
Then
Avery Hederman got the dagger in the 82nd minute as she scored a golazo straight off a corner. She took the corner from the left side and was able to curl it in past the goalkeeper to put MC up 4-1. The goal was her 2nd of the season.
That 4-1 scoreline would be the final score as MC picked up the important GSC victory.
The Lady Choctaws had 24 shots as a team and put 13 on goal.
Beatrice Currie had 6 shots which led the team. Currie, Hernandez, and
Kaylee Foster all had 2 shots on goal.
Camila Cevallos picked up the win in goal for MC in her fist start as a Lady Choctaw.
MC will be back in action on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 10) as they host West Georgia at 1:00 pm.
