CLINTON, Miss. --- For the second straight year, Mississippi College finished 6th (63.500 points) in the Gulf South Conference All-Sports Trophy standings, it was announced on Wednesday (May 15).
The Lady Choctaws racked up 34.625 total points to finish 6th on the women's side, led by the women's soccer program, who finished 2nd in the regular season standings and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division II Tournament. The softball team also took home double-figure points with a 3rd-place finish in the regular season and a trip to the NCAA Division II South Regional.
On the men's side, the Choctaws picked up 28.875 points to finish 8th, led by a 2nd-place finish from the baseball team to score 11.0 points. The cross country team scored 10.0 points of their own after taking 2nd in the GSC Championships.
West Florida took home the GSC Overall All-Sports Trophy with 91.750 total points, followed by closely by Lee (83.375). Valdosta State had the top score on the men's side with 44.375 points, while UWF had the best women's score (50.875).
The Argonauts won their sixth straight Overall All-Sports Trophy and 13th in the last 14 years on the women's side. VSU won its first Men's Trophy since 2012-13.
The conference will present the All-Sports Trophies at its Annual Awards Banquet, Thursday, May 30, at the Hilton Pensacola Beach in Pensacola Beach, Fla. At that time, the GSC will also recognize its "Top Ten" student-athletes and announce the winners of the Commissioner's Trophies.
