Lady Choctaws Finish Sweep of West Georgia in Extra Innings

RAYMOND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team completed a three-game sweep of West Georgia with a 4-3 win in extra innings on Monday morning at Rene T. Warren Field on the campus of Hinds Community College.

The Lady Choctaws picked up their 9th straight win to improve to 15-3 with a 3-0 record in the Gulf South Conference. The Wolves dropped to 8-10 with a 1-5 mark in the league.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Lady Choctaws quickly got on the board as sophomore Ashley Elsensohn drew a leadoff walk and stole around to third base before a bunt single by junior Shayla McKissock and an ensuing rundown allowed her to score the game's opening run.
- MC would add a run in the third inning as senior Alexia Harmon drove in her fourth run of the weekend, chasing home McKissock after she singled to open the inning.
- The Wolves broke through for three runs in the fourth inning to grab their first lead of the weekend as the big blow came from Ashley Ellison's two-run single.
- The Lady Choctaws answered back with the game-tying run in the fifth as McKissock singled with one out and came home to score on a triple by freshman Annemarie Peavy, her second of the weekend.
- Both teams would have multiple chances as the game went into extra innings, but neither could push a run across until the 11th inning.
- With junior Hayden Claypool placed at second to open the frame due to the international tiebreaker, junior Morgan Bradford laid down a bunt and the West Georgia third baseman had her throw go up the line, allowing Claypool to score the game-winning run.
