Choctaws Have Four Named to United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Teams

CLINTON, Miss. --- Senior Owen Connelly, juniors Alejandro Chavarria and Abel Perez and freshman Joshua Davies have been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Team, it was announced on Monday (Dec. 9).

Chavarria (Madrid, Spain) was named to the Second Team, while Connelly (Glasgow, Scotland), Davies (Southampton, England) and Perez (Madrid, Spain) earned Third Team laurels.

Chavarria was a D2CCA First Team All-South Region selection, as well as, a First Team All-Gulf South Conference honoree after leading the league in goals against average (0.66) and save percentage (.863), ranking nationally in the top 10 in both categories. He also set a single-season school record with eight shutouts.

Connelly was a Second Team All-GSC selection after finishing second on the squad with five goals and tying for the team-lead with three assists in 2019. He scored a season-high two goals, including the game-winner in a victory at West Alabama. Connelly also scored goals in the final two regular season matches of the year.

Davies earned D2CAA All-South Region Second Team honors, while also being named to the All-GSC Second Team. He helped lead an MC defense that allowed a league-low nine goals in 2019 after giving up 25 goals a season ago. The Choctaws posted a 0.64 goals against average, netting nine shutouts and only giving up more than one goal on four different occasions.

Perez helped lead an MC team that improved their record from 6-7-1 in 2018 to 9-2-5 in 2019 and win their second GSC regular season title in the last four years. The Choctaws allowed 14 fewer goals in 2019 and Perez was the catalyst for that, racking up two assists while playing a team-high 1511 minutes.
