Alejandro Chavarria and freshman
Joshua Davies have been named to the 2019 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2 CCA) Men's Soccer All-South Region Teams, it was announced on Wednesday (Nov. 20) after a vote by the region's Sports Information Directors.

Chavarria (Madrid, Spain) was a First Team All-Gulf South Conference selection after leading the league in goals against average (0.66) and save percentage (.863), ranking in the top 10 in the country in both categories. He also set a school record with eight shutouts on the season.

Davies (Southampton, England) helped lead an MC defense that allowed a league-low 10 goals in 2019 after giving up 25 in 2018. The Choctaws posted a 0.66 goals against average on the season, netting nine shutouts and giving up more than one goal in a match just three times.

The Choctaws (9-2-5) won the GSC regular season championship in 2019, taking home the title for the second time in four years since returning back to Division II. MC went to the GSC semifinals following a 1-0 win over Union in the opening round.

The Choctaws just missed out on the NCAA Division II Tournament, despite ranking as high as #4 in Super Region 2 just two weeks before the end of the season.

The 13 first-team honorees will now advance to the national ballot, and the announcement and distribution of the All-American Teams will be Wednesday, December 11.

The D2 CCA encourages and promotes DII athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact DII intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to DII member colleges and universities.

MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and began competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
