Lady Choctaws Tie School Record in 7-0 Win Over Warhawks

JACKSON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team tied a school record with their 12th straight victory in a 7-0 win over Auburn Montgomery on Friday afternoon at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.

The match was moved across town to the turf field at Belhaven after several inches of rain fell in the Clinton area earlier this week.

The Lady Choctaws (12-1, 10-0 GSC) last won 12 straight in 2018 and are the lone remaining unbeaten team in Gulf South Conference play. The Warhawks fell to 1-13-1 overall with a 1-8-1 league record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  - The Lady Choctaws scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 13th minute when freshman Emma Young tallied her second score of the season on a header off an assist from senior Katie Taylor.
  - Taylor would add an unassisted goal of her own in the 23rd minute, while freshman Peyton Scheuermann notched her first career goal on an assist from junior Lindsey Stephenson in the 41st minute.
  - The Lady Choctaws would take the 3-0 advantage into the halftime break and build from there.
  - Senior Jess Davenport scored her sixth goal of the season in the 48th minute on assists from Taylor and freshman Kaylee Foster.
  - Foster then netted a pair of goals over the next 30 seconds to give her six on the year, the first coming on an assist from Taylor and the second being unassisted.
  - The final score of the match came in the final minute as Stephenson scored her second of the season with assists from senior Lauren Kate Carter and freshman Marion Pohl.

KEY STATS
  - The MC defense held the Warhawks to just one shot in the match, coming off target with just under four minutes remaining.
  - Senior Gabby Kayser netted her 6th shutout of the season, facing just the one shot.
  - The three assists for Taylor was a season-high for a Lady Choctaws, and the Tupelo native now leads the league with 2.38 points per game.
  - This was Foster's second multi-goal game of the season after she scored twice in the come-from-behind win over Tampa (Sep. 8).
  - The Lady Choctaws took 27 shots in the match with 13 coming on goal.
  - Dejon Fletcher took the loss for the Warhawks in net, allowing four goals with four saves made.

MATCH NOTES
  - The Lady Choctaws are now 3-0 all-time against the Warhawks with the other two victories over the past two seasons coming by just one goal each time.
  - Last season, MC set a school record with 12 straight victories, capping it with a 2-1 win over Auburn Montgomery on October 21st.

NEXT UP
  - The Lady Choctaws will celebrate "Senior Day" on Sunday, honoring their seniors playing their final regular season home games.
  - The match has been oved to Clinton High School due to the wet field conditions at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.
  - Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with "Senior Day" festivities taking place prior to the match.
