Women's Soccer Preview: Rockhurst and Barry

CLINTION, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Memphis, Tenn. for two neutral site matches. The matches will be held at Christian Brothers University and MC will face Rockhurst on Sept. 7 and Barry on Sept. 9.

MC NOTES
- The Lady Choctaws will come into the weekend with a record of 1-1-0 after opening up the season a week ago.
- MC was victorious by a score of 2-1 in the season opener against Saint Leo. The Lady Choctaws got the win in overtime on a golden goal from junior Jess Davenport.
- The Lady Choctaws suffered their first loss of the season last Sunday against Tampa by a score of 3-1.
- Davenport and fellow juniors Katie Taylor and Liza Wise scored one goal each for the Lady Choctaws over the opening weekend.
- Three Lady Choctaws recorded an assist over the opening weekend of play. Senior Lauren Smith, sophomore Holly Pascoe and freshman Marisa Saunders all notched their first assist of the season. For Saunders, it was the first assist of her MC career.
- Junior Gabby Kayser got the start in goal for both games this past weekend. Kayser recorded eight saves on 23 shots faced over the weekend and suffered her first career loss as a Lady Choctaw in the match against Tampa.
- The top newcomers shined in the opening weekend for MC with freshman Abbie Hanna getting the start in both matches. Graduate transfer Rita Okoro looked good in her Lady Choctaw debut as the forward recorded four shots on goal over the weekend. Saunders, as mentioned above, recorded her first career assist and fit in well on the Lady Choctaw back line.

ROCKHURST NOTES
- The Hawks will bring a record of 1-1-1 into Friday's match with the Choctaws.
- Rockhurst plays in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and is located in Kansas City, Missouri.
- Over the opening weekend the Hawks opened the year with a 1-1 tie against Missouri Southern State and then Rockhurst got its first win on Sept. 2 in 2-1 victory over Northwest Missouri State University.
- Rockhurst first loss of the season came on Tuesday Sept. 4 in a 3-0 defeat to Rodgers State University out of Oklahoma.
- The Hawks leading goal-scorer early in this season is junior Stephanie Ostrander who has two goals so far. The assist leader currently for Rockhurst is redshirt freshman McKenna Leetch who has two assists this season.

BARRY NOTES
- The Buccaneers are undefeated so far in 2018 with a record of 3-0-0.
- Barry has been impressive so far this season posting wins of 3-0 over St. Edwards, 4-0 over Saint Michael's and 1-0 over Gulf South Conference foe West Georgia.
- Senior Christy Grimshaw leads the charge for the Buccaneers, she is the team's current leading goal-scorer with three so far and is also the team leader in assists with three.

SERIES HISTORY
- Both games this weekend will be first against Rockhurst and Barry in the program's history.
 
MATCH COVERAGE
- Both matches will be played at Christian Brothers University at Signaigo Field in Memphis, Tenn.
- Both matches will have live video and live stats this weekend and the links to match coverage can be found on Christian Brothers athletic website.
- Friday's match against Rockhurst is scheduled for a 5:00 P.M. kick-off
- Sunday's match against Barry is scheduled for an 11:00 A.M. kick-off.
  

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
