CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team will be back in Gulf South Conference play this weekend as they host Shorter on Sept. 28 and Lee on Sept. 29. The match against Shorter has been moved to Belhaven due to poor weather conditions and the match against Lee is still currently scheduled to take place at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.
MC NOTES
- The Lady Choctaws will bring into the weekend an overall record of 5-1-0 and a record of 3-0 in GSC play.
- MC is coming off a 1-0 victory over rival Delta State last Friday.
Emma Claire Furman scored the lone goal to defeat the Lady Statesmen and stay unbeaten in GSC play.
- With the current win streak up to four, the Lady Choctaws have moved back into the United Soccer Coaches National Rankings checking in at #22.
- The Lady Choctaw offense has been solid so far in 2018 scoring 11 goals as a team. The current leading goal scorer MC is
Jess Davenport, who has netted three goals.
- The MC defense has been lights out to this point in the season. Goalkeeper
Gabby Kayser has recorded four shutouts in a row and in that stretched has notched 16 saves along with being named GSC Defender of the Week for her efforts against West Alabama and UAH.
SHORTER NOTES
- The Lady Hawks will bring into Friday's match against the Lady Choctaws an overall record of 1-7-0 and a record of 0-3 in GSC play.
- Shorter's offense has gotten off to a slow start this season, only scoring five goals to this point. All five of their goals have come from different players. Erica Hiller, Kelly Vernon, Kristina Evans, Bianca Martins Da Silva and Fanny Garanger are the five Lady Hawks to net a goal this season.
- The Lady Hawks have struggled offensively in GSC play so far, they have yet to score a goal in conference play this season.
LEE NOTES
- The Lady Flames will bring into Sunday's match against the Lady Choctaws an overall record of 5-2-1 and a record of 2-1 in GSC play.
- Lee is coming off of a stunning 3-2 loss in overtime to Montevallo. The loss caused the Lady Flames to fall out of the United Soccer Coaches National rankings poll.
- The offense for Lee is led by Mia Hollingsworth who has scored nine goals and recorded five assists so far this season.
SERIES HISTORY
- MC will bring in an all-time record of 3-1-0 against Shorter, the last meeting between the two ended in a 2-0 victory in Rome, Ga last year.
The Lady Choctaws will bring in an all-time record of 1-4-1 against Lee, the last meeting between the schools was a 1-0 loss for MC in the GSC Tournament final.
MATCH COVERAGE
- Live stats and live video will be available (weather permitting) for both matches this weekend on MC's athletics website. Friday's match against Shorter is currently scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time and Sunday's match against Lee is also currently scheduled for a 1 p.m. start time.
