CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team will be back in Gulf South Conference play this Friday September 21 when they travel to Cleveland. Miss. to face rival Delta State.
MC NOTES
- The Choctaws will bring in an overall record of 3-2-0 and 1-1 in GSC play into this rivalry match against the Statesmen.
- MC opened up GSC with a 3-2 upset victory over #9 nationally ranked West Alabama.
Owen Connelly scored the winning goal in the 86
th minute off of a free kick opportunity to take down the Tigers.
- The Choctaws currently have two players tied for the lead in goals scored on the season so far.
Victor Bazan and Conner Johnson have both netted three goals in 2018. Bazan has been an aggressive playmaker for the Choctaws early in the year as he is also leading the team in shots with 12.
- MC has three Choctaws tied for the lead in assists.
Andy Alanis,
Paul Downey and
Abel Perez all have two assists so far this season.
- The Choctaws have been perfect so far this season on penalty kick opportunities. Johnson has stepped up to net two and Bazan put the third one in. MC has attempted a penalty kick in each of their last three games.
DELTA STATE NOTES
- The Statesmen will be bringing in an overall record of 0-5-0 and 0-2 in GSC play into this rivalry match against the Choctaws.
- DSU's offense has struggled so far this season only scoring three goals to this point. The Statesmen have given up 19 goals to opponents, being outscored by a margin of 16.
- Delta State have three Statesmen tied for the lead in goals scored. Myron Duffy, Lorenz Kopp and Carlos Bestard all have netted one goal so far this season.
- The Statesman are off to their worst start since 2014 when they started the season off 0-3-1.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Choctaws will bring in an all-time record of 6-4-0 into Friday's rivalry match against the Statesmen. The last meeting between the rivals ended in a 2-1 win for MC at Robert P. Longabaugh Field.
