Clinton, Miss --- The #18 ranked Mississippi College women's soccer team fell to the University of Tampa Spartans on a rainy afternoon at Robert P. Longabaugh Field by a score of 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams came out firing on all cylinders with aggressive play and early shots on goal.
- MC took advantage of a Tampa foul in the 23rd minute when junior
Liza Wise found the back of the net on a miraculous free kick from 50 yards out to give the Lady Choctaws the early lead.
- Tampa was able to respond quickly and tied the game in the 36th minute when freshman Moeko Morse found the net with an assist going to both freshman Elena Barr and junior Lacy Nasello.
- In the second half Morse struck again to give the Spartans the lead in the 47th minute with the assist coming from sophomore Mia Brantley.
- After a lighting delay in the 73rd minute that postponed the match 50 minutes, Morse iced the match for the Spartans with the final goal of the day in the 83rd minute with the assist coming from junior Syd Grainer.
KEY STATS
- Moeko Morse recorded her first collegiate hat trick in the contest scoring all three goals on the day for the Spartans.
- MC got off more shots in the match than Tampa, out shooting them 20 to 15.
- After giving up four goals in their season opener, the Spartans got an amazing performance by sophomore goalie Megan Bromwell. Bromwell recorded 11 saves on 20 shots faced.
- The Lady Choctaws had many opportunities to tie the game late with four corner kicks in the second half alone and five total in the game.
NEXT UP
- The Lady Choctaws will travel to Memphis, Tenn. next weekend for two neural site games against Rockhurst on Sept. 7th and Barry on Sept. 9th.
