CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team celebrated "Senior Day" with a doubleheader split against West Alabama on Saturday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (26-14, 17-11 GSC) opened the day with a 5-2 win, while the Tigers (19-28, 11-19) won the series finale by a score of 4-0. Following the twin-bill, MC Softball recognized

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 5, WEST ALABAMA 2 (GAME ONE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaws got the offense going early in the first game as freshman
Kayla Murphy doubled down the left-field line and came home to score on a two-out single by junior
Kristen Qualls to make the score 1-0.
- MC opened up the advantage in the second with three runs, the first of which came on a bases loaded walk to freshman
Carly Crawford that scored junior
Alexia Harmon.
- Senior
Katherine Lee would come home to score on an RBI groundout by junior
Brianna Caldwell, while Murphy scored on a throwing error by the Tigers to make the score 4-0.
- UWA would cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the third, but junior
Adrianna Morgan (8-1) got out of what could have been a much larger jam to hang onto the 4-2 lead.
- The score remained the same until the sixth inning when Lee tripled to right field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Murphy, giving the game its final score.
KEY STATS
- Morgan was impressive in the complete game victory, scattering eight hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts and one walk.
- Lee and Qualls led the Lady Choctaws with two hits apiece, while Lee and Murphy each scored twice.
- Kamree Lay (5-3) took the loss for the Tigers, giving up four hits and three earned runs over 1.1 innings.

WEST ALABAMA 4, MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE 0 (GAME TWO)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the second game, the Tigers got all the offense they needed from the first batter of the game as Kierra Hague led the game off with a home run on an 0-2 pitch.
- Nora Keehn (5-7) made the lead stand up by shutting out the Lady Choctaws for the first time this season, allowing just four hits over 7.0 innings.
- UWA would expand the lead to 2-0 in the second inning, taking advantage of an MC error to score an unearned run.
- The Lady Choctaws would get the leadoff batter on base in four of the first five innings but could not get the timely hit to put a run on the board.
- The Tigers put the game away in the seventh with a pair of runs to give the game its final score.
KEY STATS
- Junior
Cori Cooper (9-2) took the loss in the circle, allowing just six hits and an earned run with three strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
- Cooper would retire the final 11 batters she faced to keep the Lady Choctaws within striking distance.
- Senior
Kristen Gardner would pitch the final 1.1 innings for MC in her final appearance at the MC Softball Complex.
