CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team knocked off Gulf South Conference opponent Christian Brothers University 8-1 in their regular-season home finale on Saturday, March 24. With the win, the Lady Choctaws improved their 2018 record to a perfect 13-0 overall and 6-0 in GSC play.
In doubles action, seniors
Brenna Keller and
AnneMarie Kimball improved their record to a perfect 11-0 as a duo with their 8-6 win over Tara McElroy and Lauren Woog in the number one flight. Seniors
Katie Reid and
Karly Matthews knocked off Melody Mays and Brittany Weathersby 8-2 in the number three flight, while senior
Sofia Gonzalez-Carrera and freshman
RebeccaGrace Kimball defeated Judit Aubets Macia and Meg Mattis 8-0 in the number two flight.
In singles, A. Kimball and #45 Carrera both bested their opponents in straight sets.A. Kimball improved to 13-0 on the year with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Meg Mattis in the number four flight, while Carrera saw her single's record climb to 11-1 with her 6-2, 6-0 ousting of Judit Aubets Macia in the number three matchup. Nicole Bueno needed three sets to finish Lauren Woog 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 in the number two matchup, while
Tori Roberts (8-2) and
Katie Reid (8-0) both downed their opponents in the number five and six flights.
Carrera, Keller, A. Kimball Matthews and Reid were all recognized prior to the start of Saturday's match as a part of senior day.
The Lady Choctaws will return to action on Friday, March 30 when they take on Valdosta State in Pensacola, Fla. Match time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
