CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team shut out the Buccaneers of Christian Brothers University 9-0 in Gulf South Conference action on senior day on Saturday, March 24. With the win, the Choctaws improved to 6-6 overall, and 1-4 against GSC opponents.
In doubles play, the number-nine ranked duo of
Joan Valy and
Marcos Rocca bested Lorenzo Maccarini and Javier Saez 8-5 in the number one flight, improving the senior duo's record to 9-3 on the year. Senior partners
Sanders Barrick and
Jose Rodrigo Gonzalez knocked off Abel Kim/Nick Cotros 8-2 in the number three matchup, while Senior Lucio Menzes and his partner
Max Nilges took down Atilio Flores and Andres Calzacorta 8-6 in the number two flight.
In singles action, the Choctaws took all six possible points without dropping a single set. #61 Menzes (6-2, 6-2) and Rocca (6-3, 6-2) both notched their team-high 10
th win on the year.
Prior to the match, Barrick,
Petar Damjanovic, Gonzalez, Menezes, Rocca and Valy were all recognized as part of senior day.
The Choctaws will return to action on Friday, March 30 when they take on #13 Valdosta State in Pensacola. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m.
