ARKADELPHIA, Ark. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team knocked off host-team Ouachita Baptist University 9-0 on day one of the Ouachita Baptist Invitational on Thursday night, improving to 4-0 on the season. The shutout victory marks for the third-straight match in which the Lady Choctaws have blanked their opponents.
In doubles action, seniors
Karly Matthews and
Katie Reid both made their season debuts, knocking off Katie Stanage and Torey Harrison 8-2 in the number three flight. In the number one and two flights,
Brenna Keller and
AnneMarie Kimball (8-0), and
Aneta Golawska and
Tori Roberts (8-2) improved to 4-0 with their doubles wins.
In singles play, reigning Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week
Nicole Bueno made her collegiate debut at the singles number one spot for MC. The Providence, R.I. native bested Tabler in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) to improve to a team-best 4-0 on the season.
A. Kimball (6-0, 6-1), Golawska (6-0, 6-0) and R. Kimball (8-0) all also improved to a team-best record of 4-0 on the year with their single's victories.
Sofia Gonzalez-Carrera made her season debut at the number two flight, A. Kimball the number three flight, Golawska the number four flight and R. Kimball the number five flight.
The Lady Choctaws face a quick turnaround, as they will return to action with a two-game slate on Friday, Feb. 23. MC will take on Angelo State at 10:00 a.m., then turn around and face Henderson State for a 6:00 p.m. contest in day two of the Ouachita Baptist Invitational.
