JACKSON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team opened up their 2018 campaign by knocking off division I opponent Jackson State 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Choctaws grabbed the early 1-0 advantage at the conclusion of doubles play, with victories from
Brenna Keller and
AnneMarie Kimball at the number one over Tyler Smith and Lucia Solis (6-3) and
Aneta Golawska and junior transfer
Tori Roberts at the number two spot over Oni Jones and Chloe Gauvreau-Dredge(6-2).

In singles play, newcomers
RebeccaGrace Kimball and
Nicole Bueno both shined in their Lady Choctaws debuts. Bueno (Providence, R.I.) came back from a 4-1 deficit in her first set to take her match at single's number two in straight sets at 6-4, 7-5 over Nina Zhang. R. Kimball (Shreveport, La.) dropped her first set 4-6 at at the singles number six spot, but would rally to take her matchup against Daria Butornia 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

A. Kimball and Golawska accounted for MC's remaining victories in singles, with A. Kimball knocking off Chloe Gauvreau-Dredge in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) at the singles number four spot and Golawska besting Oni Jones in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) at the singles number five spot.

The Lady Choctaws will return to action on Sunday, February 18 when they host the University of West Georgia for their first Gulf South Conference match of the season. First serve is slated for 2:00 p.m.
