Women's Soccer Preview: Christian Brothers and Union

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team is back in Gulf South Conference play this weekend as they travel to Memphis, Tenn. on Friday Oct. 5 to face Christian Brothers and then travel to Jackson, Tenn. to face Union on Oct. 7.

MC NOTES
- The #20 ranked Lady Choctaws will bring an overall record of 7-1-0 and 5-0 in GSC play
- A new star has emerged in the last two weeks for the Lady Choctaws and her name is Emma Claire Furman. Furman as scored four goals in the team's last three matches, with one of those goals being a game winner against rival Delta State.
- Furman is tied for the team lead in goals scored with Jess Davenport, who has also netted four goals this season. Davenport is a huge threat to score for the Lady Choctaws every time she touches the ball.
- The MC Defense has also been outstanding this season only allowing five goals all year and just one goal in GSC play.
- Gabby Kayser has had a great season in goal to this point, posting four shutouts and being named GSC Defender of the Week for her efforts against West Alabama and UAH. Liza Wise, Scarlett Hodges and Gaylynn Cooper have also been stellar on the back line and key to the success of the defense so far this season.

CHRISTIAN BROTHERS NOTES
- The Lady Buccaneers will bring in an overall record of 5-2-1 and a 4-1 record in GSC play.
- CBU's lone loss in GSC play came at the hands of #4 ranked West Florida 2-1 in double overtime. The Lady Bucs have been dominate in their other GSC matches this season, outscoring opponents  19-2 in their four GSC victories.   
- The top two play makers for the Lady Bucs are Sinead Tierney and Anna Della Rosa. Tierney is the team's leading goal scorer with seven on the season and Della Rosa has netted five goals and notched two assists.

UNION NOTES
- The Lady Bulldogs will bring an overall record of 0-7-0 and 0-5 in GSC play.
- Union has struggled so far this year offensively only scoring five goals to this point and only one goal in GSC play.
- The top playmakers for the Lady Bulldogs is Anna Barkey, she has scored one goal and has an assist on the season.

SERIES HISTORY
- The Lady Choctaws will bring in an all-time record of 3-2 against Christian Brothers, the last meeting between the two schools was a 3-0 victory for MC in Clinton a year ago.
- MC has an all-time record of 2-0-2 against Union and the last match between the two was a 6-1 win for the Lady Choctaws in Clinton last season.
 
MATCH COVERAGE
- Both matches will have live stats/live video (weather permitting) and will be available on both Christian Brothers' and Union's athletics websites.
- Friday's match against Christian Brothers is currently scheduled for a 5:00 P.M. start time.
- Sunday's match against Union is currently scheduled for a 1:00 P.M. start time.  
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships beginning with the 2018-19 academic year.
