Women's Soccer Preview: #2 West Florida and Spring Hill

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team will close out the 2018 regular season this weekend at Robert P. Longabaugh Field with a pair of Gulf South Conference matches first against nationally ranked West Florida on Thursday Oct. 25 and then against Spring Hill on Saturday Oct. 27.

MC NOTES
- The Lady Choctaws will bring in an overall record of 13-1-0 into the weekend and a GSC record of 11-0.
- MC is coming off an historic win this past Sunday with the 2-1 double overtime victory against Auburn Montgomery, the Lady Choctaws set a new program record of consecutive wins with the victory being the team's 12th in a row.
- Going into this final week of GSC play the Lady Choctaws are tied for first in the conference with West Florida, so a win against the Argonauts and the Badgers would give MC a regular season GSC title.
- The players to watch for the Lady Choctaws over the weekend are Emma Claire Furman, Lauren Smith, Liza Wise and Gabby Kayser. Furman and Smith lead the team in goals scored with five a piece. Wise has been the leader on the back line all season and Kayser has been outstanding in goal recording 40 saves on the year along with being named GSC Defender of the Week twice in 2018.
- Before Saturday's match against Spring Hill, the Lady Choctaws will be honoring eight seniors with "Senior Day" festivities. Those eight seniors will be: Andrea McDonald, Samantha Carson, Peace Gill, Gaylynn Cooper, Lauren Dodge, Julie Reid, Cara Benedict and Lauren Smith.

WEST FLORIDA NOTES
- The Argonauts will bring in an overall record of 15-0-0 into Thursday's match and a GSC record of 11-0.
- West Florida is currently ranked #2 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II national poll and are one of only two remaining unbeaten teams in the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer South Region.
- The Argos are coming off of an impressive 7-1 victory over Spring Hill this past Sunday.
- The players to watch for West Florida are Peyton Peffers, Grace Busby and Jessica Quixley. Peffers is the team's leading goal scorer with ten on the season. Busby is a true playmaker with the ball at her feet with eight goals and seven assists on the year and Quixley is also a good goal scorer with seven on the season.

SPRING HILL NOTES
- The Badgers will bring in an overall record of 1-12-1 into Saturday's match and a GSC record of 1-9-1.
- Spring Hill has struggled this season offensively only scoring ten goals this season and they have given up 55 goals to opponents to this point in the year.
- The players to watch for Spring Hill are Sidney Spivey and Devin Fry. Spivey and Fry are tied for the team lead in goals score with two each.

SERIES HISTORY
- The Lady Choctaws will bring in an all-time record of 3-4 against West Florida with the last meeting between the two being a 1-0 victory for the Argos in the NCAA Regionals a year ago.
- MC has an all-time record of 6-2 against Spring Hill with the last meeting between the two schools ending in a 4-0 victory for the Lady Choctaws in Mobile, Ala. a year ago.

MATCH COVERAGE
- Both matches will have live stats and live video (weather permitting). The live stats/video can be found on the MC athletics website.
- Due to the threat of inclement weather the time and location are subject to change. Currently both matches are scheduled to take place at Robert P. Longabaugh Field and start at the originally scheduled time of 1:00 P.M. until further notice.
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2018-19 academic year.
