Women's Soccer Preview: Christian Brothers and Union

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team will resume action in Gulf South Conference play this weekend, when they host Christian Brothers on Friday, Sept. 29 and Union University on Sunday, Oct. 1.
 
MC NOTES
- The Lady Choctaws (6-1-1, 5-1 GSC), are coming off of a previous weekend of action that saw them defeat #5 West Florida 1-0 on Friday, Sept. 22 and best Valdosta State 1-0 on Sunday, Sept. 24.
- The Lady Choctaws currently find themselves in second place in the Gulf South Conference Standings.
- In the most recent United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II Poll, the Lady Choctaws found themselves ranked at #22, the highest ranking for MC women's soccer since becoming a full-time member of Division II. The Lady Choctaws also found themselves at #3 in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II South Regional Poll.
- Both Andrea McDonald and Emily McNair were rewarded for their efforts in last week's action by being named recipients of GSC weekly accolades. McDonald, who did not allow a single goal in last weekend's action and recorded 13 saves, was named the conference defender of the week. McNair, who slotted the game-winning goal in MC's 1-0 victory over Valdosta State on Sunday, Sept. 24, was honored as the conference's top performing freshman of the week.
- On offense, the Lady Choctaws are averaging 1.25 goals per contest. MC has logged 110 shots on the year, for an average of 13.8 per game.
- Sophomore Emma Claire Furman currently paces the Lady Choctaws, with two goals scored on the year. Furman, Samantha Carson, Lauren Kate Carter, Caitlin Hayes, Emily McNair, Holly Pascoe, Lauren Smith, Lindsey Stephenson and Katie Taylor account for nine different Lady Choctaws that have scored at least on goal on the season.
- In the assist stat column, Taylor leads all Lady Choctaws with two on the season. Hannah Bailey, Carter, Hayes, McNair, Madison Moser, Smith and Stephenson have all registered one assist on the season.
- Through eight games, the Lady Choctaw defense has allowed two goals for a goals against average of 0.25, a mark that ranks first in the GSC and fifth in the nation.  The Lady Choctaw backline is allowing just 9.1 shots per game, and four shots on goal per game.
- McDonald has compiled a record of 4-1-1 in goal for the Choctaws in 2017. The junior keeper currently leads the GSC in goals against average (0.16), fewest goals allowed (1), save percentage (0.964) and shutouts (5)
 
CHRISTIAN BROTHERS NOTES
- The Lady Bucs (6-2, 4-1 GSC) currently sit one spot behind MC in third place in the GSC standings. In their most recent action, The Lady Bucs bested conference opponents Lee University 1-0 and Shorter University 3-0 last weekend.
- In the most recent United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II South Regional Rankings, the Lady Bucs found themselves ranked number 10.
- On the offensive side of the ball, the Lady Bucs are currently averaging 1.63 goal per match, while averaging 15.4 shots and 6.86 shots on goal per contest.
- The Lady Bucs are led on offense by Bailey Tadlock (4) and Anna Della Rosa (3), who have combined for seven of the 13 goals netted on the season.
- In the assist stat column, Tadlock, Della Rosa, Nikesha Mitchell, and Shelby Goodrich all lead the Lady Bucs with two assists.
- The Lady Buc backline has allowed just seven goals through eight games, for an average of 0.88 per match.
- In goal, keeper Autumn Woods (5-1) boasts a goals against average that ranks third in the conference (0.747).Woods 0.852 save percentage currently ranks second in the GSC.
 
UNION NOTES
- The Lady Bulldogs (2-4, 2-3 GSC) knocked off Shorter University 4-1 on Friday, Sept. 22 and fell 1-0 to Lee University on Sunday, Sept. 24 in their most recent GSC action.
- The Union attack has netted 11 goals in six games, for an average of 1.83 scores per contest.  The Lady Bulldogs are currently averaging 16.7 shots per game, and 7.5 shots per contest.
- The Lady Bulldogs are led by Madison Studstill, who has logged a goal and two assists on the year for a team-best four points. Ten different Lady Bulldogs have accounted for a goal scored on the season. Six Lady Bulldogs have been credited with an assist so far in 2017.
- On defense, Union has surrendered 14 goals on the year, averaging 2.33 allotted per contest. In Goal, Frances Kristen (2-4) brings a goals against average of 2.42 into this weekend's matchup.
- Prior to this Sunday's match vs MC, the Lady Bulldogs will face off against Delta State University on Friday, Sept. 29 in Cleveland, Miss.
 
SERIES HISTORY
- The Lady Choctaws bring an all-time record of 2-2 against Christian Brothers, and a mark of 1-0-2 against Union. In their most recent meetings in 2016, The Lady Choctaws knocked off Christian Brothers 3-1, and tied with Union 2-2.

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
