Choctaws Extinguish Flames 2-1 in GSC Road Bout

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team knocked off the Flames of Lee University 2-1 in Gulf South Conference action on Sunday, Sept. 17.

TURNING POINT
  • Senior midfielder Horacio Gutierrez Jr. found the back corner of the net from the top of the box in the 61st minute, with help from junior defender Rafael Costa. The score gave MC a 2-0 advantage and provided the Choctaws with enough breathing room to hold on for the 2-1 win.

  • Senior midfielder Dihno Zwane broke the scoreless tie in the 52nd minute of the match, when he beat the Lee keeper to a ball off of a defensive giveaway and netted his second goal of the year.
  • After MC going up 2-0, the Flames answered in the 67th minute with a goal off of a corner kick by Jeremy Bonyaa. Alfie Coldron delivered the ball that helped set up the score.
  • The Choctaws would hold on to the lead for the remaining 23 minutes to secure the win.
