Choctaws Drop GSC Opener at West Alabama, 42-13

LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Mississippi College football team dropped their Gulf South Conference opener with a 42-13 loss to West Alabama on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.

The Choctaws fell to 0-3, 0-1 GSC on the season, while the Tigers are now 2-1, 1-0 GSC.

TURNING POINT
- Trailing 21-10 in the opening minutes of the second half, junior quarterback Ty Jobe found junior Arik Washington for a 12-yard completion, but a fumble led to a touchdown by the Tigers, and UWA would go on to outscore MC 21-3 in the second period.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws opened the game with a bang on their first possession as Jobe found sophomore Nathan Faciane for an 87-yard touchdown pass to put MC ahead 7-0.
- The Tigers answered with a 14-play, 65-yard drive that ended in a 4-yard touchdown run by Rashaad Lee, tying the game at the end of the first quarter.
- After UWA scored touchdowns on their next two drives, junior Greg Nickles gave MC some momentum at the halftime break with a 24-yard field goal to make the score 21-10.
- The Choctaws would force a missed field goal on UWA's first second-half possession, but the fumble led to a touchdown and the Tigers took a 28-10 lead.
- On MC's next possession, the Tigers blocked their second punt of the night, this time falling on the ball in the end zone to grab a 35-10 advantage going to the fourth quarter.
- Nickles opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a 23-yard field goal, cutting the score to 35-13 with 11:33 remaining in the game.
- UWA capped the scoring on the night with a 23-yard rushing touchdown, giving the game its 42-13 final score.

KEY STATS
- The Choctaws gained a season-high 388 yards of total offense, averaging 5.2 yards per play on the night.
- MC also held the ball for over 37 minutes on the night and went 8-of-16 on third downs.
- Jobe went 18-of-29 for 256 yards and a touchdown, while Faciane caught three passes for 137 yards, inlcuding the 87-yard score.
- Junior Ja'Moz Mark caught a team-high six passes for 59 yards.
- Junior Tiberias Lampkin had a team-high 36 rushing yards on 14 carries.
- Junior Colton Magee had a team-high seven tackles, including three solo stops. Senior Chris Manning added six tackles in the contest.
- Senior Alex Johnson and junior Jordan Barrett each had fumble recoveries in the fourth quarter.
- Quarterback Harry Satterwhite went 29-of-35 for 219 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers.
- Lee rushed for 99 yards and two scores, while Lakendric Thomas carried the ball seven times for 39 yards and a touchdown.
- Ken Hibbler led UWA with 14 tackles, while Tevin Madison had 13 stops, a pass breakup and a fumble recovery.

GAME NOTES
- West Alabama is now 23-19-2 all-time against the Choctaws, including winning seven straight.
- The Choctaws are 5-5 all-time on September 16th.
- MC played their 200th game against a team from the State of Alabama, holding a 101-88-11 all-time record against teams from the Yellowhammer State.

NEXT UP
- The Choctaws will play their home opener next Saturday when they host Florida Tech at 7:00 p.m. at Robinson-Hale Stadium.
