Lady Choctaws Split Delayed Doubleheader at Lee

CLEVELAND, Tenn. --- After a Sunday cancelation and a Monday delay of around three hours, the Mississippi College softball team split a doubleheader with Lee University at Butler Field.

The Lady Choctaws (28-18, 19-10 GSC) opened the day with a 10-0 victory in six innings, while the Flames (33-14, 19-10 GSC) bounced back for a 1-0 victory in the finale.

GAME ONE: Mississippi College 10, Lee 0 (6 Innings)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After two scoreless innings, senior Tylan Buckley gave MC all the offense they would need in the third with an RBI double down the right field line to score senior Haley Thompson.
- The Lady Choctaws would go on to score six runs on four hits in the frame as freshman Carly Crawford and sophomore Alexia Harmon also had RBI in the frame.
- Sophomore Adrianna Morgan made the big inning stand up as she did not all a hit until the fifth inning and only allowed a runner to reach third base in the sixth.
- Sophomore Makenzie Nieto drove in Thompson with a squeeze bunt in the fourth, and Buckley drove in two more in the sixth to give the Lady Choctaws an insurmountable lead.

KEY STATS
- The top of the lineup (Thompson, Katherine Lee and Buckley) led the offense, going 7-for-9 with six runs scored, six stolen bases and three RBI.
- Thompson's three swipes in the game give her 42 on the season, the 2nd-most in a single season in school history (Shay Mickens-44 (2014)).
- Morgan (6-5) tossed her second straight complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out one with three walks.
- Leigh Beatenbough (16-6) took the loss for the Flames, giving up five hits and five earned runs over 2.0 innings.

GAME TWO: Lee 1, Mississippi College 0

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaws struggled to get their offense going in the finale, mustering just three hits and not advancing a runner past second base.
- The Flames got the lone run of the game in the fifth inning on an RBI fielder's choice by Abby McKinney that scored Stevie Baird.

KEY STATS
- Junior Kristen Gardner (2-3) was the tough-luck loser for MC, scattering eight hits and just one run over 6.0 innings.
- Nieto, Crawford and senior Lauren Mulligan each racked up the hits for the Lady Choctaws.
- Taylor Moran (11-4) tossed the shutout for Lee, allowing just three hits and two walks over 7.0 innings.
- Courtney Crawford and Zoe Miller led Lee with two hits apiece.

NEXT UP
