CLINTON, Miss. --- Senior
Tylan Buckley hit her second grand slam of the season, while junior
Kristen Gardner tossed a shutout as the Mississippi College softball team handed #16 Alabama Huntsville a 4-0 loss on Friday night at the MC Softball Complex.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaws (26-16, 17-8 GSC) and the Chargers (31-12, 17-8 GSC) traded scoreless frames through 4.0 innings as Gardner and Tyler Harrison allowed a combined five hits over the stretch.
- UAH would get runners to second base in the third and fifth innings, but the MC defense was able to hold them scoreless.
- The fifth inning was the only scoring frame in the game as seniors
Megan Everett and
Lauren Mulligan drew walks and senior
Haley Thompson's infield single loaded the bases with one out.
- After a strikeout, Buckley came to the plate and sent the first pitch she saw over the right field wall, giving MC all the offense they would need.
- In the seventh inning, UAH would get runners to first and second with no outs after a single and an error, but a smooth line drive double play turned by Mulligan and sophomore
Alexia Harmon ended the threat.
- A fly ball to center field and junior
Katherine Lee gave the Lady Choctaws their fourth shutout win of the season.
Â
KEY STATS
- Buckley led the MC offense with two of their six hits and all four RBI on the grand slam.
- The grand slam was the Lady Choctaws' third of the season as Buckley and sophomore
Makenzie Nieto have the other two.

- Harrison (12-7) gave up just three hits and four earned runs with three strikeouts and four walks on the night. She also led the offense with two hits.
