CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team will head to Alabama this weekend to play in the "Falcon Frenzy", hosted by Montevallo University.
The Lady Choctaws (2-2) will play five games, beginning Friday against
Montevallo (3:45 pm). They will then play
#16 Indianapolis (11:15 am) and
Miles (8:15 pm) on Saturday, before wrapping things up on Sunday against
Ursuline (9:00 am) and
Truman State (11:15 am).
At the Gulf Coast Invitational last weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala., the Lady Choctaws split four games with wins over Miles and Embry-Riddle and losses to Auburn Montgomery and #8 North Georgia.
Senior
Haley Thompson (.400) was MC's top hitter last weekend, also pacing the squad with five stolen bases and four runs scored over the four games. Sophomores
Alexia Harmon and
Kristen Qualls each homered for MC.
Sophomore
Adrianna Morgan (1-0, 1.00 ERA) tossed a complete game four-hitter in the 5-1 win over Embry-Riddle, while freshman
Marley Peagler (1-0, 2.00 ERA) won her first collegiate start with three strikeouts against Miles.
The Lady Choctaws will play their 1,200th game in school history on Friday night, posting al all-time record of 690-508-1. The first game on record was on March 14, 1986 when MC fell to Troy State in Columbus, MS (L, 13-14).
MC is also creeping up on a couple of milestone wins, sitting just 10 wins away from 700 all-time with the first coming on March 22, 1986 against Tennessee-Martin (W, 6-2).
Also, head coach
Brooke O'Hair is 20 wins shy of 300 in her 11th season at the helm. Her first victory came on February 20th, 2007 against William Carey (4-1).
This weekend, the Lady Choctaws will play four opponents for the first time. The only team MC has seen in their history is Miles College with the Lady Choctaws going 3-0, including a 7-2 win last Saturday.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
