MOBILE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College softball team rebounded from a tough loss to Spring Hill College to grab a 3-2 victory in the finale of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Murray Field.
The Lady Choctaws (6-5) dropped the first game by a score of 8-0 in six innings but responded with the win over the Badgers (8-4) in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: Spring Hill 8, MC 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior
Haley Thompson singled to open the game and stole her 15th base of the season, but the Lady Choctaws were unable to convert the scoring opportunity in the first.
- The Badgers took advantage of a couple MC errors in the first inning to score two unearned runs and take a 3-0 lead through one inning.
- Spring Hill would add three more runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead after another Lady Choctaw error.
- The Badgers would close out the game early with a run in the fifth and sixth innings.
KEY STATS
- The Lady Choctaws were only able to muster four hits in the first game as seniors
Tylan Buckley and
Lauren Mulligan and junior
Katherine Lee joined Thompson with a base-knock.
- Sophomore
Adrianna Morgan (1-2) took the loss for MC, scattering 12 hits and five earned runs over 5.1 innings.
- Danielle Clark (6-2) tossed the complete game shutout, giving up just four hits with one strikeout.
- Four Badgers finished the game with two hits, while Kali Clement drove in three runs. Katelyn Wilson and Rene Krausin each drove in a pair of runs.

GAME TWO: MC 3, Spring Hill 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The nightcap was a pitcher's duel between sophomore
Penny Nichols (2-2) and Katelyn Wilson (2-2).
- After two scoreless inning, the Badgers got on the board in the third as Clement hit a two-run home run to left-center field to take the lead.
- The Lady Choctaws would answer back in the fourth inning as Lee singled to open the frame and stole second base with one out.
- Following a walk to Buckley, sophomore
Kristen Qualls doubled to right field to drive in Lee and Buckley and tie the game before being cut down at third trying to stretch a triple.
- On the very next pitch, sophomore
Makenzie Nieto hit her first career home run down the left field line to score the eventual game-winning run.
- The Badgers would threaten in their half of the fifth, putting runners on second and third with one out, but Nichols got out of the jam with a groundout and a fly-out to close the frame.
- MC would have another opportunity in the sixth to score as senior
Megan Everett and Buckley walked to open the inning and moved up to second and third on a sacrifice bunt from Qualls.
- However, the Lady Choctaws would go scoreless after a pop-out and groundout.
- The score would remain 3-2 going to the bottom of the seventh, and the Badgers opened things up with a single.
- After a fielder's choice, freshman
Carly Crawford cut down a runner trying to steal second to give MC two outs and nobody on.
- Following a two-out single, Nichols coaxed a foul-out to Buckley to snap a 7-game winning streak for the Badgers.
KEY STATS
- The Lady Choctaws had five hits and drew four walks in the win, while Lee stole her seventh base of the season.
- Nichols tossed her second complete game of the season, striking out five over 7.0 innings.
- The Orange City, Fla. native scattered seven hits and walked two in her 18th career victory.
- Jenna Charnock and Savannah Woodruff each had two of the seven hits for the Badgers.
- Wilson took the loss for Spring Hill, giving up four hits and three earned runs, striking out three with two walks over 5.0 innings.

NEXT UP
- The Lady Choctaws will open Gulf South Conference play this weekend when they travel to Pensacola to face West Florida. The teams will play a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, followed by a single game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
