CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team kicked off their 2017 campaign with a 6-3 loss to the University of Montevallo on Saturday afternoon.
MC was able to pick up two of their three points on the day in doubles action.
Brenna Keller and
Aneta Golawska knocked off Alice Copeland and Rayne Sinclair 8-0, while
AnneMarie Kimball and
Anna Shuliak defeated Alina Munteanu and Merel Van Zutphen 8-3.
Christa Owen and
Karly Matthews dropped their set 9-7 against Emily Beatty and Allie Whitley.
In singles action, Shuliak grabbed MC's lone point; defeating Amanda Gautreaux in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 6-2).
Kimball took Montevallo's Beatty to three sets, eventually falling in the third (3-6, 6-1, 7-5)
Keller fell to Munteanu in straight sets (6-3, 6-1). Golawaksa (5-7, 2-6), Owen (4-6, 3-6) and Reid (5-7, 2-6) all also suffered defeats in straight sets.
The Lady Choctaws will return to action on Monday, when they host division I foe Jackson State for a home tilt. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
