FLORENCE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team saw their 2017 season come to a close with their 1-0 loss to the number-five seed University of West Florida in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Argos logged the game's lone goal, when Deneisha Blackwood beat a charging
Andrea McDonald for the ball, and punched it in to give West Florida the 1-0 advantage in the 13
th minute.
- The 1-0 score would hold for the remainder of the contests, despite several scoring looks from both teams in the contest.
KEY STATS
- The Lady Choctaw tallied nine shots in the match, with two shots on goal. MC registered six shots in the first period, and three in the second.
- Senior
Caitlin Hayes took a team-high three shots on the day, with one shot on goal.
- Junior keeper
Andrea McDonald grabbed a season-high eight saves in the match.
- The Lady Choctaws took one corner in the match, while the Argos took five.
- MC was on the receiving end of 12 fouls, while West Florida received 11.
MATCH NOTES
- The loss finishes off MC's record at 15-4-1 for the year, the third-highest win total amassed by an MC women's soccer team in one season.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC is recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2016-17 academic year.
