Choctaws Wrap Up 2017 with 16-7 Loss at North Alabama

FLORENCE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College football team closed out the 2017 season with a 16-7 loss to North Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Braly Stadium.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions (5-5, 5-3 GSC) got on the scoreboard first with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Matt Markham to Dre Hall, taking a 7-0 lead with 2:59 remaining in the first quarter.
- The MC defense would not allow another touchdown in the game, but UNA would get a 29-yard field goal from Chandler Carrera in the second quarter and take a 10-0 lead into halftime.
- After a scoreless third quarter, the Lions would push the lead out to 13-0 when Carrera hit a 32-yard field goal with 11:20 remaining in the fourth.
- The Choctaws (1-9, 1-7 GSC) put together a 14-play, 84-yard drive on their next possession, and junior Ja'Moz Mark rushed in from 16 yards out to cut the score to 13-7 with 4:19 remaining.
- UNA would put the game away on their next possession, converting a 37-yard field goal to give the game its final score.
 

KEY STATS
- The Choctaws rushed for 199 yards on 50 carries, led by junior Tiberias Lampkin with 20 rushes for 99 yards.
- Mark rushed for 61 yards on four carries, averaging 15.3 yards per rush with the touchdown.
- Senior Chris Manning closed out his stellar four-year career with a season-high 13 tackles, including six solo stops. He finished his career with 199 tackles and nine interceptions.
- Seniors Steven Bradley and Kaleb Coleman each had 10 tackles, while Coleman and senior Kris Reliford combined on a sack.
- The defense had a season-high 8.0 tackles for loss, while sophomore Julian Charles was credited with a forced fumble and fumble recovery.
- The Lions put up 289 rushing yards on 52 carries, led by 133 yards from Nick Taylor and 108 yards from Hall.
- Jaylin Dailey had a team-high 10 tackles, while Joshua Amanfo and Freddie Reed each had 2.0 TFL.
 

NEXT UP
- The Choctaws have finished the 2017 season and are scheduled to open 2018 against Clark Atlanta University at Robinson-Hale Stadium on Thursday, August 30th.
