CLINTON, Miss --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team will play their first home game of the 2016 season on Friday, Sept. 9 when they take on the Warhawks of Auburn University at Montgomery.
The Choctaws, coming off of a Labor Day Weekend road trip that took them through the east coast of Florida, look to build on their 1-0-1 record. Last weekend's trip saw the Choctaws defeat Nova Southeastern University on Friday Sept. 2 in Fort Lauderdale, and tie 1-1 with Florida Tech University in Melbourne on Sunday, Sept.4.
Offensively for the Choctaws,
Jacob Farthing,
Marco Profumo and
Horacio Gutierrez Jr. have all scored a goal. Guitierrez leads the team with two shots on goal for the year.
Jorge Delgado leads all Choctaws with one assist.
The Choctaws are currently averaging 1.50 goals and 8 shots per game. They've taken 16 shots, with six shots on goal. Of those 16 shots taken, eight have come in the first half.
Humberto Pelaez, who was recognized as the Gulf South Conference Defender of the Week for week 1 on Tuesday, has accounted for 11 saves and only one goal allowed so far. The junior goalkeeper brings a goals against average of 0.45 into the contest.
On Tuesday, the Choctaws made their season debut at number nine in the south region of the NSCAA Division II poll.
This will be the first ever meeting between MC and AUM.
