JACKSON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team will play their final non-conference road games of the season when they travel to Jackson to face Millsaps on Wednesday afternoon. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
THE COACHES
The Lady Choctaws are led by 10th-year head coach
Brooke O'Hair, who is the winningest skipper in Lady Choctaw history and picked up her 250th career win on February 28th against West Alabama. She has led MC to four 30-win seasons, three NCAA Regional appearances and two NCCAA World Series.
The Majors are led by first-year head coach Erin Clary.
THE SERIES
The Lady Choctaws and Majors have met 52 previous times with MC holding a 39-13 edge in the series. MC swept a doubleheader with Millsaps on February 25th, outscoring the majors 17-5 in the two games.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lady Choctaws picked up a 13-5 win over Valdosta State on Saturday night, putting up the most runs against a Blazer team in the last 10 year. VSU clinched the series with a 3-1 win on Sunday.
The Majors have won four of their last five games, including taking 2-of-3 games against Centre last weekend. Millsaps posted 29 hits in the three games.
MILESTONE WATCH
Senior
Carlie Sargent is MC's all-time leader in strikeouts/game, posting 6.22 per contest in her career. She also ranks 3rd in school history in walks/game (1.31), 5th in strikeouts (281) and 6th in lowest ERA (1.90).
Senior infielder
Kimmie Conley ranks 4th in school history in games played (163), 5th in walks (55), 7th in RBI (81), 9th in doubles and 10th in at-bats (427).
Junior outfielder
Megan Everett is also climbing the record books, ranking 8th in MC history in RBI (78) and hits (135) and 12th in at-bats (421).
THE MATCHUP
The Lady Choctaws had a 13-game winning streak (2nd longest in school history) snapped last week, going 2-3 against nationally-ranked William Carey and perennial powerhouse Valdosta State.
Freshman
Penny Nichols (12-4, 2.58 ERA) went 2-0 with a 2.15 ERA last week, including her 2nd career shutout, blanking William Carey on Wednesday.
Sargent (13-7, 1.66 ERA) allowed just seven earned runs over 20.0 innings last week, but took three losses with just four runs of support in her three outings.
Freshman
Kristen Qualls (.389) is the team-leader in average, hits (44), doubles (10), home runs (8) and RBI (32). Her eight long balls is the 4th-best single-season total in school history.
Sophomore
Katherine Lee (.280) is 27-of-30 on stolen bases the season, the 4th-best total in school history. Since being inserted in the leadoff spot on February 25th, MC is 20-4 overall.
Everett (.341) had a hit in every game last week and drove in a team-high five runs over the five games. She had a bases-clearing doubles in MC's 13-5 win over Valdosta on Saturday.
Missy Romero and Rayner LeBlanc (.337) lead the Majors in average, while Rayne Gravat (.327) has a team-high 10 doubles and 23 RBI.
Cassidy DeNoon (12-9, 2.13 ERA) has started 19 games for Millsaps this season, recording 90 strikeouts in 138.0 innings pitched. She has tossed 17 complete games with five shutouts.
