HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's tennis team finished the 2016 season with a tight 5-4 loss to Lee University on Sunday afternoon at the Charger Tennis Courts.
The match was made up at the University of Alabama in Huntsville after it was postponed due to rain on March 20th in Cleveland, Tenn.
The Lady Choctaws (8-10, 3-7 GSC) played through injuries most of the season, missing sophomore
Sofia Gonzalez-Carrera, the team's #1 player last season, for all but three matches. Freshman
Anna Shuliak, who played #3 for most of the season, was lost against Valdosta State with an injury.
MC jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a sweep of doubles action, led by sophomore
Brenna Keller and junior
Christa Owen with an 8-3 win at #1.

Courtney Schrock pushed the advantage out with an 8-4 win at #3, while freshman
Ashley Ochsenhirt and sohpomore
Karly Matthews finished the sweep with an 8-6 win at #2.
In singles action, the Flames grabbed their first point of the match with a straight set win at #2, but Ochsenhirt put MC one point away from victory with a 6-3, 6-0 win at #5.
Lee would grab straight-set wins at #3 and #6, but Keller (#1) and Schrock (#4) took their matches the distance. Keller dropped the final set 6-4, while Schrock went down (6-7, 6-3, 6-0).
The future looks bright for the women's tennis team, as they will only lose one senior in
Katie Kema (Pelham, Ala.). Kema will remain with the program next year as the graduate assistant.
